Documentary Short Film about DIGITAL SHADOWS

What happens when your digital shadow takes shape: tangible, interrogative, observant? We ask the hard questions on digital identity and who controls it. Should it be centralized, or decentralized? What happens if digital identities are abused or even censored? At Johannes Kepler University Linz (https://www.jku.at), the Christian Doppler Laboratory for Private Digital Authentication in the Physical World (CDL Digidow, https://digidow.eu, https://ins.jku.at), the Circus of Knowldge, and Transitheart Productions presented an installation at Ars Electronica Festival 2025 (https://ars.electronica.art/panic/en/..., https://www.jku.at/en/2025-ars-electr...) inviting the participants to experience questions of digital and physical identity, data security, and control. Between play and analysis, concealment and transparency, a reflection emerges on identity in the age of facial recognition, deepfakes, and algorithmic profiling. How does one fool a camera? How visible do I want to be? Who owns what I leave behind, and who profits from it? This experiment was a collaborative endeavor between science and art, making power, visibility, and self-determination in digital space tangible. Project related videos:
